The Download doesn't work! Sometimes you may find a link that appears to be dead, however - not all links that appear to be dead actually ARE dead. Here are the things you should try before you give up and report the deadlink. The Download is slow, can you please speed it up? nope ;) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Right, I've got the file what now? So that game now sits on your Harddisk grinning at you, but refusing to run? Here are some things to try: Compression Utilities On this site I almost exclusively used Winzip to compress the files (they have the extension .zip in that case) and sometimes WinRAR to create selfextracting RAR-Archives. You can find links to the developers' sites in the useful links section, although you will only need Winzip since the selfextracting archives just need to be run by double-clicking on them for example. There is also a small chance I'd start using RAR and you also shouldn't panic when you see a file with the extension .arj (use ARJ for that), .ace (use XACE Plus), .lzh (LHA) or anything else. In case I use the format I also give you a chance to find the fitting tool to decompress it. ;) Emulators Emulators are used to read disk images (or sometimes even tape images) of systems other than the PC. The file-extension .d64 means a C64 disk image, .t64 a C64 tape image (use PC64), .msa is an Atari disk image (use e.g. WinSTon or Pacifist) and finally Apple II disk images are usually .dsk or .do but could also be .bin (use WinApple for example). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great I unzipped it but that little bugger doesn't run! Problems with different Operating Systems Most of the old games were designed to run under a version of MS-Dos 3.3 or higher. Some even for earlier versions. The most obvious solution for problems is of course to let the game run under MS-Dos. Version 6.22 usually does a great job. Ways to make games run under NT Errr, this would be MY section where I can give advice on what to try. So what do I tell you...? OK, best is you have a look at the file-properties. You should spend some time trying some different memory-settings as that is the most common problem. Try to run the game in protected mode. If all this doesn't help you should have a look at some of the screen-settings there. Sometimes you need to choose Fullscreen-mode to make the game run. There are lots of settings that look like they wouldn't have any effect, but in the end they were just the one that let the game run. If nothing works - run the game in pure DOS-mode... Using Slowdown-Programs If you want it the easy way - use Moslo, it is VERY simple but still effective. It's always the first one I try. There are dozens of other slowdown-utilities but I only recommend them in cases Moslo doesn't work. It would be too much to mention them all. Usage for Moslo is moslo /10 game.exe which would mean to slow down game.exe down to 10% of the original speed of your system, it is important that you add the file-extension..
